A Little Background!
The Chamber of Commerce idea is a concept found only where
private initiative and free enterprise visit. The Chamber of
Commerce is a voluntary institution in the United States eight
years older than the Declaration of Independence. The New York
State Chamber, first in America, was organized in 1768. The
first local chamber of commerce was founded in Charleston, South
Carolina in 1773. In those 200 years, the chamber
has grown from a single purpose Federation of Traders who
organized to promote trade and cut costs by cooperation in
certain operations -- to a broad business association which
believes that when men and women in leadership positions work
unselfishly on problems which they have in common, progress will
result.
The Robins Regional Chamber of Commerce has its
roots in the formation of the Warner Robins Chamber of Commerce
in 1949. In the early 1960's, the name was changed to
"Greater Warner Robins Chamber of Commerce." And again in 1981
to the "Warner Robins/North Houston County Chamber of Commerce.
In 1990 the chamber name was changed once again to the "Warner
Robins Area Chamber of Commerce."
