Newcomer Information

The Robins Region opens its doors to small businesses and large corporations alike, knowing that these businesses, even if seemingly unrelated, are critical to the success of Robins Air Force Base's operations and therefore critical to the entire community.

The Warner Robins Air Logistics Center at Robins Air Force Base is Georgia's largest industrial complex, employing more than 25,000 military, civilian NAF and contractors and generating a $3,896 billion economic impact on the region and on our state's economies.

Hundreds of businesses, those originating from here as well as those who chose it over other sites, find the Robins Region to be pro-business with good reason: a skilled and hard working labor force, affordable and accessible utilities, readily available workforce training assets, and an impressive menu of local and state incentive programs.

Driver's License

New residents are required to obtain a Georgia driver's license within 30 days of establishing a permanent residence. All other licenses must be surrendered prior to issuance of a Georgia license. A vision test is required.

Military personnel on active duty may request a renewal of their driver's license by mail, if verified in the specified manner described by the Georgia Department of Driver Services and accompanied by a $20 fee for a five-year license. The same privilege is also extended to a military person's spouse and any licensed dependents living with the person while on duty in a foreign domain or in a state other than Georgia. The renewal will be granted for no longer than five years. After five years, license holders must appear in person for renewals. Licenses are free to veterans.

For more information, contact the Georgia Department of Driver Services at 866-754-3687 or visit www.dds.ga.gov.

Requirements to obtain a Georgia driver's license:

  • proof of residency
  • Social Security card or equivalent
  • proof of identity such as a birth certificate or valid passport. If the licensee's name has changed since birth, documents verifying the name change must be submitted (such as a marriage license).
  • U.S. citizens must furnish proof of citizenship. Non-U.S. citizens must present proper immigration documentation.

Motor Vehicle Registration

Georgia vehicle license tags must be purchased within 30 days of establishing residency. Military personnel may register their vehicle in Georgia or maintain registration in another state. If your out-of-state registration is not current, you should apply immediately upon moving to Georgia.

All vehicles 1986 and newer must be titled, with the exception of trailers weighing less than 2,000 pounds. Georgia residents moving to Houston County from another county must complete the address change within 30 days of moving since you cannot register a vehicle in Houston County if you are homesteading in another county.

Automobile owners must renew their registration and pay an ad valorem tax every year during the 30-day period which ends on their birthday. If more than one person owns the vehicle, the birthday of the person whose name appears first on the title determines the registration period. For registration locations or more information, contact the Houston County Tax Commissioner's Tag office at 478-542-2135

For vehicle registration, the following is required:

  • Valid Georgia driver's license or Georgia identification card
  • Title, for models 1986 or newer
  • For models 1963-1985, completed and signed T-22B Certification of Inspection form with owner's current certificate of registration or purchase contract if registration has expired
  • Valid Georgia automobile insurance (provider will report coverage to DDS directly)
  • Current mileage on the vehicle
  • An original notarized power of attorney from any owner who will not be present at the time of registration
  • Date that the owner of the vehicle moved to Georgia
  • If the vehicle is leased, an original notarized power of attorney from the leasing company and the complete address of the leasing company where the title is being held.
  • For vehicles on which there is a lien, owners must also bring the complete name and address of the lienholder.

Voter Registration

New residents are eligible to register to vote in Georgia the day they become residents in Georgia. Those who participate in general elections or make contact with the Board of Elections office at least once every three years remain registered. If registration expires, a voter can re-register at any time. Voters who live within city limits at registration time are automatically registered to vote in every election, including city elections.

Voters must be U.S. citizens, 18 years of age (can register at 17.5 years of age), mentally sound and not under conviction of a felony. Registration and/or change of address must be completed 30 days prior to an election to vote in that election. Driver's license offices, public libraries, city halls, public assistance offices and recruitment offices all serve as voter registration locations. Mail-in applications with prepaid return postage are available at all county registration offices, various other county offices and city halls. For further information, contact the Houston County Board of Elections office at 478-987-1973, the Peach County Board of Elections and Registration at 478-825-3514, or visit www.sos.state.ga.us/elections.
